05.Aug.2011 Meeting on UNVA Situation at Indian Embassy

Sheela Murthy met with Arun K. Singh, the Deputy Chief of Mission (DCM), and Datta Palsargikar, the Minister of Community Affairs at the Indian Embassy in Washington DC. The DCM shared updates the DHS had given the Indian government regarding the ICE raid on UNVA.

Ms. Murthy explained that the situation for students will really depend upon what happens with UNVA. Not having reliable and updated information on the investigation makes providing accurate legal advice challenging. At the present time, as long as UNVA’s SEVP certification is valid, the students are allowed to continue attending classes. This has been confirmed on the government’s website.

Also present were students, representatives of the Murthy Law Firm, and representatives of the Telugu Association of North America (TANA), who had requested this meeting. Further details will follow.
