Murthy Law Firm Celebrates at Associated Black Charities Gala

Several members of the Murthy Law Firm family joined leaders of Maryland’s business, philanthropic, academic, and political communities at the Associated Black Charities (ABC) 2014 Annual Gala, held on June 14, 2014, at Martin’s West in Baltimore County. More than 1,000 people gathered for this year’s gala – a masked ball, in keeping with the event’s theme: Unmasking Leaders Who Are Making a Difference in our Communities.

Murthy Law Firm founder and president, Sheela Murthy, was the honorary co-chair of the event, together with Wes Moore, the author and youth advocate who hosts Beyond Belief on the Oprah Winfrey Network. Though Ms. Murthy was unable to attend, she was there in spirit, sending her greetings in a video that was specially made for the event. In absentia, Murthy talked about how the mission of ABC resonates with her own life experiences, and the pressing needs she sees in the world around her. She praised ABC for making a major social impact in our communities. In turn, several speakers expressed their gratitude to Murthy for her commitment to the work of ABC, and her generous support.

Murthy also invited a delegation of Murthy Law Firm staffers to take part in the celebration, including Robin Owens, Angela Mayo, Laura Donohue-Liban, Brianna Frederick, and Alissa Smith. The Murthy Law Firm was a proud sponsor of the gala.

Associated Black Charities is a public foundation that advocates and facilitates the creation of measurably healthier and more prosperous communities through responsible leadership and philanthropic investment throughout the State of Maryland. ABC also honored prominent community leaders that evening.

All in all, it was a night of good fellowship and gourmet food, great music and sparkling conversation, and all for a good cause: building stronger communities by focusing energy, attention, and financial resources on the most pressing needs and the most promising solutions.
