Murthy Law Firm Attorneys Speak at Immigration Conference in Vietnam

Earlier this month, two Murthy Law Firm attorneys, Aron Finkelstein and Alissa Klein, spoke at the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) Bangkok District Chapter 4th Annual Consular Processing Conference. The conference, which was held at the Marriott Renaissance Riverside Hotel in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, was attended by dozens of top immigration lawyers, in addition to a number of senior consular officers and other officials from the U.S. Department of State (DOS). Conference topics ranged from complexities related to nonimmigrant work visas and the employment-based, fifth preference (EB5) immigrant investor category, to the immigration impact of criminal convictions and questions surrounding international adoptions.

Given that the Murthy Law Firm is widely known for its in-depth experience handling U.S. business immigration matters, it was only fitting that Mr. Finkelstein, the firm’s managing attorney, was selected to serve as the discussion leader for the conference’s business visa roundtable. Ms. Klein, a member of the Murthy Law Firm who has been representing businesses and foreign national workers on immigration matters for more than a decade, served as one of the key presenters for the group. Other panel members included Jinny Chun, who is a DOS attorney advisor, and Charles Luoma-Overstreet and Lindsey Rothenberg, the Consular Chief and the Nonimmigrant Visa Chief, respectively, for the U.S. Consulate in Chennai, India.

The roundtable focused on various topics related to the H1B and L-1 nonimmigrant visa categories, including the recapture of H1B/L-1 time and issues surrounding the need for H1B amendments based on changes in worksite locations. The panel further discussed recent developments and practice pointers regarding L-1 new office petitions.

These conferences are a great platform for knowledge sharing and give attorneys an opportunity hear the perspectives of government officials regarding key immigration issues. They also provided a venue for attendees to meet, network, and share valuable career insight and experience. Murthy Law Firm attorneys will continue to participate in such events, from time to time, and will share important insights with MurthyDotCom readers.
