Murthy Law Firm Co-Sponsors Major Indian Dance Festival

This weekend, the rich history of classical Indian dance will come alive in New York City, as the 9th annual Erasing Borders Festival of Indian Dance commences. Centered near the vibrant neighborhood of Battery Park City, Erasing Borders will feature both indoor and outdoor performances, as well as workshops led by masters in various styles of Indian dance from around the globe. The festival is produced by the Indo-American Arts Council (IAAC), a non-profit resource arts organization committed to promoting Indian and cross cultural arts forms in North America.

With rave reviews in past years from major publications, including the New York Times, which deemed it a “dizzying showcase of movement,” this year’s festival is eagerly anticipated by insiders in the dance industry, and viewers who simply wish to learn more about India’s incredibly diverse cultural history. A few of the major classical Indian dance styles that will be explored are Kathak, which includes elements of mythology and storytelling, Odissi, a dance drama genre grounded in performance art and honed in ancient Hindu temples, and Bharatanatyam, a solo-based style developed in the first century CE and believed to be the oldest form of Indian classical dance.

The Murthy Law Firm is proud to be a major sponsor of the 9th annual Erasing Borders Festival of Indian Dance. The event runs August 13-15 at the Schimmel Auditorium and Wagner Park in New York City. Learn more about attending the festival on the IAAC WebSite.
