Thanksgiving 2003
Posted
Dec 05, 2003
William Arthur Ward is credited with saying, "Feeling gratitude and not
expressing it is like wrapping a present and not giving it." Our
MurthyBulletin subscribers will be reading this after Thanksgiving Day
has come and gone. Although the day has passed, once again, I hope to be
able to keep its spirit with me.
In our daily lives and work, there are so many things for which to be
grateful. I am grateful for our clients who have entrusted us with their
lives, in essence, by allowing us the privilege of handling their cases. I
am grateful also, for our excellent staff here at The Law Office of Sheela
Murthy, P.C. Their quality as people is reflected in the quality of their
work, which has kept clients coming to us at a time when the economy has
adversely affected so many others in our profession. In gratitude for our
own good fortune, our team bands together for charitable causes. Some of the
things we do locally to help those less fortunate are collect school
supplies in the fall, and food and canned goods at the holidays. We also
"adopted a family" in transition, through the YWCA. The Law Office of Sheela
Murthy and the MurthyFoundation
have made contributions in both the United States and in India to a variety
of causes, including those that help in the education of street children and
providing health services to women and children in India, for disaster
relief, and to help the victims of September 11th.
I am reminded of the Warner Brothers film from 2000,
Pay it Forward, starring Kevin Spacey, Helen Hunt, and Haley
Joel Osmont. By helping someone today, we are expressing our gratitude for
the help or opportunities that have been given to us, and hopefully enabling
those we help to, in turn, do the same for someone else tomorrow. It is an
awesome concept that really does have the potential to change things on a
global scale.
