Understanding the Classification of I-140s at CSC
Posted
Sep 16, 2000
We have received many inquiries on the I-140 categories in the
California
Service Center (CSC) status chart that we publish on our website at.
The table lists different processing times for various groups of cases. For
those having difficulty interpreting the codes on the CSC chart, please note
that CSC has divided the I-140 cases into batches as listed below:
A
= E1-1
: Extraordinary Ability
B = E1-2 : Outstanding Professor or Researcher
C = E1-3 : Multinational Executive or Manager
D = E2-1 : A member of the professions holding an advanced degree or
an alien of exceptional ability.
E = E31, E32 : Skilled workers & professionals requiring at least
two years of specialized training or experience.
F = Hong Kong nationals
G = EW-3 : Any other worker requiring less than two years of training
or experience.
Currently, the CSC is
engaged in a backlog-reduction effort. In August 2000, CSC officials
expressed the hope that by the end of this fiscal year (i.e., by September
30, 2000), processing times would be down to 90 days. It does not appear
that this will happen, but there has been some improvement. Much may also
depend on the INS budget, yet to appear in final form in the U.S. Congress.
