AILA
Holds Annual Lobby Day
Posted
Feb 14, 2000
On
March 30, 2000 AILA will hold Lobby Day as an opportunity for member
attorneys and their clients to meet with Members of Congress. AILA is
providing assistance with scheduling meetings, research materials and tips
to maximize the impact of the visits.
Member attorneys are encouraged to bring clients with them to provide a real
world perspective and share their stories on U.S. immigration law issues
with Members of Congress who are beginning to understand the importance of
the H1B program and the lengthy green card process better, thanks to the
lobbying efforts of other AILA members. Certainly, this is an excellent
opportunity to lobby strongly for the new H1B Bill, sponsored by Orrin
Hatch, which has benefits for foreign nationals not to be subject to the H1B
6-year limit on stay if the green card case is being processed.
The current Congress is especially receptive to the needs of businesses, so
if you are a Human Resources Manager at a company that hires foreign
nationals, you may wish to accompany your immigration attorney to Capitol
Hill and lobby for increased H1B numbers or improvements in green card
processing times!
If you want to get involved, contact your immigration attorney, or if you do
not have an attorney, contact the Law Office of Sheela Murthy to help you
with this process.
