James Ziglar Nominated for INS Commissioner Position
Posted
May 18, 2001
President George W. Bush has nominated James Ziglar as the next Commissioner
of INS. On April 27, 2001, Attorney General John Ashcroft heartily endorsed
the nomination, praising Ziglar for his management abilities and legal
experience. Mr. Ashcroft declared, "[W]hile we must guard our nation's borders with vigilance, we must also remember that the
greatness of our nation comes from generations of immigrants. Legal
immigrants should be greeted with open arms, not endless lines. I look
forward to working with Jim to implement such ideals, and I know he will
lead the INS with honor."
Mr.
Ziglar's current position is as Sergeant at Arms of the U.S. Senate, where
he oversees protocol and law enforcement for the Senate, as well as being
responsible for general administrative matters. His prior position was as
Managing Director of the financial services company Paine Webber Inc. He has
also held other governmental positions at the U.S. Department of the
Interior as a Senatorial aide and at the U.S. Supreme Court as a law clerk.
Additionally, he has previously practiced law at firms in New York and
Phoenix.
