USCIS Issues Advisement Against Potential Fraud

In the wake of the debate on immigration legislation, confusion has arisen over the availability of new immigration programs. Therefore, the USCIS issued an advisory to foreign nationals on April 7, 2006, in an effort to protect them against becoming victims of fraud. In the notice, the USCIS states that no new temporary worker program, or any other immigration law, has passed recently. As of this writing, this is still the case and we reiterate here as an advisement to MurthyDotCom and MurthyBulletin readers. The reason for confusion is that a lot has been reported in the press of late, especially in newspapers abroad in countries like India, making it appear that some bill has passed, or is likely to become the law, that will help many people to obtain the green card more quickly. In reality, no such law has been passed and the U.S. Congress now is in recess, so that nothing is likely to be passed in the immediate future. The USCIS advises that no one should pay money to any person or agency who claims to be able to help a foreign national obtain an immigration benefit from a new program, for such programs do not exist.

As often happens, unfortunately, in the world of immigration and many other areas, unscrupulous individuals or businesses seek to take advantage of unsuspecting and desperate individuals by perpetrating fraud against such individuals. Current reliable news reports are only attempting to explain the varying proposals and further the debate. If and when an essential worker program is ever established and actually becomes law, it will widely be reported by trustworthy sources including governmental websites, MurthyDotCom, and the MurthyBulletin. There is nothing that anyone can do to help an individual become part of a proposed program, unless and until such program actually becomes a reality by law. Thus, foreign nationals need to be on their guard and wary of promises related to such programs or benefits at this time.
