The Student and Exchange Visitor Program Office (SEVP) updated the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) Website concerning fee payments as of May 1, 2005. The upgrade now allows individuals, schools, and program sponsors to obtain verification of payment of the SEVIS I-901 fee. It also allows one to determine the date of issuance of the fee receipt. The WebSite also contains helpful information for determining which F-1, F-3, J-1, M-1 or M-3 individuals must pay the fee.

The ability to check fee payments applies to payments made over the Internet, which accounts for approximately 77 percent of such fee payments. The new system allows students and exchange visitors to ensure that they have been successful in making their payments and that this can be verified by consular officials when visa applications are filed.

Such technological upgrades are always helpful in increasing efficiency and access to information.
