Fewer Than 1000 Masters Cap H1Bs Remaining

The USCIS has released a new count of the advanced degree H1B numbers that are remaining. As of January 3, 2006, there are only 953 remaining H1B numbers for these candidates. It is unlikely that these H1B numbers will last much longer. The previous count was issued on December 27, 2005. At that time, there were 1,364 advanced degree H1B numbers remaining.

Anyone with an advanced degree should file the H1B petition immediately or plan to wait until April 1, 2006 to file under the quota for the next Fiscal Year 2007 (FY2007), with an H1B start date of October 1, 2006. The FY2007 cases, both for the regular 65,000 annual cap and the 20,000 advanced degree H1B exemptions may only be filed on or after April 1, 2006 but such candidates will not be able to start working until October 1, 2006 under the FY2007 quota.
