The Murthy Student Award for Indian Students
Posted Oct 14, 2005

Through the Murthy Foundation (TMF), Attorney Sheela Murthy is hoping to establish a special award for select students from India who are coming to accredited United States colleges and universities. The purpose of the Murthy Student Award is to provide the students, new to the United States, with $500 the first semester they reach here. We will grant awards to ten schools ($500 for one student starting in the fall and $500 for one student starting in the spring) totaling $10,000 per year in gift funds.

This is a project very close to Attorney Murthy's heart. As a young woman, new to Harvard and struggling in a new country, culture, and climate
, like many students from other countries, she had none of the small things that are taken for granted by those who are already "established" or settled here. If a gift of $500 enables a worthy student to focus on her/his studies, that is money well spent! The funds will help them towards purchases of items such as school books, warm clothing, telephones, or computer equipment.

We will accept inquiries only from the presidents of the Indian Student Associations or
designated school officials / international student advisors. MurthyDotCom and MurthyBulletin readers should feel free to forward this information to interested and appropriate individuals. Inquiries should be sent to <TMF@murthy.com>. Please note that inquiries can only be accepted from these school representatives. We cannot accept inquiries from the students themselves.
