The U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) has implemented an online case tracking
system for labor certifications pending with the Backlog Processing Centers
(BPCs). To use the system, it is necessary to have the Employment and
Training Administration (ETA) case number. This number is the case number
assigned by the BPC, and can be found in the 45-day continuation letter. It starts
with either a D or a P, depending upon whether the case is pending at the
Dallas or Philadelphia Backlog Processing Center. The
BPC Status
Check System is available on the DOL WebSite.

Basic status information is provided, with one of seven possible status
notations. These are:
a) Your case has
been entered and is under review.
b) The case is being worked on or is in the queue ready to be worked on.
c) Case has been certified.
d) Case has been denied.
e) Case is being appealed.
f ) Case has been withdrawn.
g) Case has been closed.
We at the Murthy Law
Firm have tried the system and have found it to be helpful. Since it does
not have the name of the beneficiary or the employer, however, it does not
appear that it can be used as a substitute for the screenshot to file for
the seventh year and beyond H1B extensions. We hope that this system will
prove helpful to those MurthyDotCom and MurthyBulletin readers
who have cases pending at the BPCs, helping them to gain further insight into
their case statuses.
