DHS Watch : New Immigration Website
Posted
Feb 28, 2003
INS has advised that, following the transfer of INS service or benefits
functions to the Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Services (BCIS) on
March 1, 2003, the new website will be
<http://www.immigration.gov>. As of this writing, this web address
links to the INS WebSite.
In addition, INS has stated that the BCIS will accept filing fee checks made
payable to either BCIS or INS for the foreseeable future. Any changes to
this or any other procedure will be announced on the
BCIS WebSite
and at the telephone number for the National Customer Service Center,
1-800-375-5283. Information regarding immigration enforcement will be
available on the above website or through the
Department of Homeland Security
(DHS) Website. At MurthyDotCom and the MurthyBulletin,
we will continue to monitor these issues very closely and update our readers
during this transitional period.
Special Security Tips on WebSite
On Thursday, February 27, 2003, the nation's security alert was lowered from
High (orange) to Elevated (yellow). The Department of Homeland Security has
developed an emergency plan for persons in the United States who fear future
terrorist attacks. This information is located at
READY.GOV, a special
website created by the DHS to provide tips for preparing for various types
of terrorist attacks.
Cutting-Edge Information to Help You
As reported, tomorrow, on March 1, 2003, INS will officially be abolished
and a new system will begin. While there are no apparent changes, yet,
MurthyDotCom and MurthyBulletin readers should expect significant
changes in the near future. We have seen the gradual implementation of
significant changes since September 11, 2001 with Special Registration,
enhanced security measures, and now the abolition of INS. We will continue
to monitor the development of the DHS and the new bureaus related to
immigration in order to better adapt to the inevitable changes this move
signifies. We strive to provide our readers with the most detailed and
current information on DHS, BCIS, and the transition of INS into these
agencies. We provide you with cutting-edge information to help you better
plan your future course of action.
