New Test Center Opening in Delhi, India
The Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools (CGFNS) has just
announced (late May 2003), that it is establishing a new test center in
Delhi, India, to conduct its Qualifying Exam for registered nurses.
Currently, the CGFNS has two testing centers in India: one in Bangalore and
another in Cochin. The addition of the Delhi testing center should prove
beneficial to applicants from northern and central India.
Registered nurses are required to apply to CGFNS to certify their
credentials and/or evaluate qualifications to seek employment in the U.S. In
addition, nurses are eligible to sit for the CGFNS qualifying exam. A
passing score on the CGFNS Examination is necessary in order to obtain the
CGFNS Certificate. Foreign-educated nurses who intend to practice nursing in
the U.S. generally should begin with obtaining the CGFNS Certificate.
The first CGFNS Exam to be administered in Delhi will be the November 12,
2003 exam. As explained in our April 18, 2003, MurthyBulletin
article, 2003 CGFNS Exam
Registration Deadlines, CGFNS will provide a Special Administration
of the CGFNS Exam for nurses at select locations worldwide on September 10,
2003. The special offering of the CGFNS Exam will not be held in Delhi.
Applicants who wish to sit for the November 12, 2003 CGFNS Exam in Delhi
should designate the Delhi center number 852 on their Certification Program
applications. The deadline for applying for the November Exam is August 13,
2003. To obtain an application for the CGFNS Certificate Program, applicants
should contact:

Postponement of Exam Center Opening in Beijing,
China
In a related development, the CGFNS has postponed opening its Beijing, China
exam center. Originally, the Beijing testing center was scheduled to open in
July 2003. In response to concerns about Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS),
the opening date has been rescheduled to November 2003. Applicants who wish
to sit for the November 12, 2003 CGFNS Exam in Beijing should designate the
Beijing center number 801 on their Certification Program applications. Of
course, they should continue to check with CGFNS to determine whether the
center will be opened in time for the November exam.
The CGFNS continues to increase the number of test centers and test
administration dates each year. The first exam in India was given in
Bangalore on March 13, 2002 – just over one year ago. We at MurthyDotCom
and MurthyBulletin will continue to keep our readers in touch with
the latest worldwide developments at the CGFNS.
