NewsFlash! Preliminary Unofficial H1B Cap Count as of Apr 2, 2007

There is no official word on how many cap-subject H1B cases were filed under the FY2008 quota and received at the USCIS on the very first day, Monday, April 2, 2007. However, the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) has obtained unofficial information from the leading courier services, and sources close to the USCIS. This unofficial information indicates that two service centers for H1B case filings, the California Service Center (CSC) and the Vermont Service Center (VSC), received a total of at least 200,000 pieces of mail on April 2, 2007.

There is no information available yet as to how many of these delivered packets were H1B cap-subject cases filings. There is also no information as to the breakdown of cases that will be counted against the regular H1B cap versus the advanced-degree H1B cap. However, if the 200,000 count is correct, it would only take slightly more than 25 percent of that number to exhaust the regular H1B cap for FY2008 and another 10 percent to reach the cap of 20,000 for advanced-degree exemptions.
