Posted Jul 25, 2006

The latest Advanced Degree cap count shows that 94 percent of the Fiscal Year (FY) 2007 cap exemptions have been used. The latest information reflects cases filed as of July 23, 2006. The total filings as of that date are 18,742, out of a permitted 20,000. This includes both cases that have been receipted and those awaiting receipts.

The USCIS target number is actually 21,000 cases, since not all cases end up being approved. Therefore, they estimate that they need to accept 21,000 Advanced Degree cases in order to utilize 20,000 exemptions. With the number of reported filings, we expect that the final cap announcement indicating that the cap has been reached will be issued very shortly. Any Advanced Degree cases that have not yet been filed should be filed immediately.
