AILF Salutes IndianAmericans
Posted May 31, 2002

The American Immigration Law Foundation (AILF) is celebrating its 14th annual benefit dinner on June 14, 2002 in San Francisco. The theme of the dinner is "A salute to IndianAmericans." The funds raised will be used to support AILF's public education and other pro-immigration activities throughout the country. AILF is a highly respected non-profit organization dedicated to promoting the public understanding of immigration law and policy and contributions made to the U.S. by immigrants. More information about AILF and ticket information for the dinner is available on AILF's WebSite. As in prior years, The Law Office of Sheela Murthy, P.C. is a proud sponsor / patron of AILF for this event.

AILF embarked on a pilot project for three years to highlight the contributions of immigrants from various parts of the world. In the last two years, AILF has highlighted the contributions of IrishAmericans and ChineseAmericans, respectively. This year, as a continuing part of the American Heritage Project, the focus turns to India. The evening will feature examples of Indian culture, including an art exhibit, performances of traditional Indian music and dance, and a fashion show of traditional and non-traditional Indian attire. The awards ceremony will feature well-known IndianAmericans from differing fields. The honorees for this year are: Jagdish Bhagwati, Economist and Professor, Columbia University; Deepak Chopra, acclaimed doctor and CEO of the Chopra Center; Gururaj "Desh" Deshpande, Chairman, Sycamore Networks, Inc.; Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni, award winning author; and Kanwal Rekhi, entrepreneur and founder, The Indus Entrepreneurs. The evening will be a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the contributions of IndianAmericans and Indian culture, while benefiting a worthy organization.

We invite all those interested in celebrating the accomplishments of some of our fellow IndianAmericans, to attend this gala benefit event. We also invite individuals and organizations to publicize this event to others who would take pride in attending. All of our MurthyBulletin readers who live, work, or otherwise plan to be in the San Francisco area should show their support and attend this "black tie optional" affair. The event is Friday, June 14, 2002 at the San Francisco Hilton and Towers. For details visit <http://www.ailf.org>. We encourage all who believe in the greatness of America and the contributions of immigrants to support this worthy cause. Attorney Murthy and several attorneys from The Law Office of Sheela Murthy will attend this event while in San Francisco for the annual American Immigration Lawyers Association Conference.
