Border Bill Moves Forward
Posted May 17, 2002

The Enhanced Border Security and Visa Reform Act has now passed both the U.S. House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate. President Bush has promised to sign this bill into law. For more information about this legislation, kindly refer to our April 26, 2002 MurthyBulletin article, Senate Approves Border Bill, available on MurthyDotCom at.

The bill includes provisions to improve visa screening and inspections at the border. It also provides for tracking of non-citizens after entry to the U.S. It is designed to add layers of protection to provide security before the person reaches the border entry point. Other provisions include increased staffing and training, and improvements to the gathering and sharing of intelligence.

The Border Bill legislation has the support of the American Immigration Lawyers Association, as striking an appropriate balance between security concerns and U.S. immigration policy considerations.
