New Department of State Consular Center Opens
Posted Nov 27, 2000

In a prior issue of the MurthyBulletin, we mentioned that the Visa Lottery applications were now being processed through a new Department of State (DOS) facility located in Kentucky. In an announcement in late October 2000, a DOS official announced that the new Kentucky Consular Center would also play a role in processing regular immigrant visa applications. The National Visa Center (NVC) will also have increased responsibilities.

DOS is looking at streamlining the immigrant visa process so that much of the administrative work can be done within the U.S. borders, to enhance security, keep costs down and create U.S. jobs.
