Clarification on Visa Bulletin Priority Date Chart
Posted Oct 01, 2000

As our readers have come to expect, we post the latest visa bulletin chart from the U.S. Department of State (DOS) on our website every month as the information becomes available. The chart recently released by the DOS contains an error in the date indicated for the employment-based, second preference (EB-2) in the India column. The original date indicated was June 1, 1999. Our site, as well as the sites of some other law offices and the American Immigration Lawyers Association, posted this information.

The DOS later issued a correction, stating that the EB-2 cut-off date is November 1, 1999. We promptly corrected the chart on our website accordingly, but wanted to be sure to get the word out to those readers who may have seen the June date. If you have an approved I-140 and have been waiting to file for adjustment of status (I-485) and your priority date in the EB-2 category for India is prior to November 1, 1999, your date will be "current" as of October 1, 2000 -- meaning that the INS will accept your I-485 for processing on or after October 1, 2000.
