VSC on Processing Times
Posted Apr 14, 2000

A teleconference between representatives of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) and officials at the Vermont Service Center (VSC) of INS took place on March 28, 2000. One issue that was discussed was the fact that the processing times listed on Receipt Notices, as well as those given through their voice mail systems, have become notably inaccurate. AILA explained to the INS that the resultant questions and confusion translates into wasted time for officers at INS, for attorneys, and for our clients. AILA representatives suggested the idea of addressing this situation at the INS regional or national level, by publishing up-to-date processing times on the INS website. The INS agreed that this is a suggestion worth implementing. It was also agreed that a standardized format for the processing time reports from all four Service Centers (California, Vermont, Texas, and Nebraska) would make things easier for applicants, attorneys, and the INS officers.

As many of you know, the INS website is an excellent source of general information on many aspects of U.S. immigration and its URL address is http://www.ins.usdoj.gov. The Law Office of Sheela Murthy, P.C. is pleased to share the latest information with you on immigration law matters.
