DOS Announces Details on the Next Visa Lottery (DV-2001) Program
Posted Aug 28, 1999

In an earlier edition of the Law Office of Sheela Murthy's Immigration Law Bulletin, we indicated that further information and instructions on the next Diversity Visa program, popularly known as the Visa Lottery, would be issued sometime in August 1999. The U.S. Department of State (DOS) has now issued its instructions, as promised, for the upcoming lottery referred to as the DV-2001 program.

The instructions are very similar to that for last year's program, the DV-2000. Of course, the dates of when the Visa Application should be received by the DOS are different. All applications must be received between noon on Monday October 4, 1999 and noon on Wednesday November 3, 1999.

Oversubscribed countries like India, China, Canada, the United Kingdom, and El Salvador are not eligible to participate in the Visa Lottery Program.

For those who prefer to submit their lottery applications through an attorney, The Law Office of Sheela Murthy, P.C. will be happy to assist. Kindly send us an e-mail to law@murthy.com if you have an interest.
