New Schedule of Consular Fees for H1B Revalidation
Prior to May 1998

Many of you send your passports to the U.S. State Department in Washington D.C. for renewal or revalidation of the H1B visa stamp in the passport when the old visa has expired or within sixty (60) days of the H1B visa stamp expiration. Some people tend to get confused between the H1B visa and H1B status. Please note that the visa stamp in the passport has nothing to do with H1B legal valid status in the U.S. For example, often, the person may have an expired visa stamp in the passport but the status may be valid in the U.S.

Starting from February 1, 1998, the State Department will return all such passports and documents if the correct fees are not paid with the Application Form and other documents. The following are the important revisions in the fee schedule:


Visas


Non Immigrant Visas (NIV)/Machine readable Visa (MRV) Application Fee:

Old - $20.00 New - $45.00

Immigrant Visa Application Processing Fee:

Old - $200.00 New - $260.00


Passports/Citizenship


Fee to Execute a Passport Application:

Old - $10.00 New - $15.00

First-time Passport Issuance:

Old - $55.00 New - $45.00 (10 year validity)

Renewals:

Old - $55.00 New - $40.00

Five-year Passport for Minors:

Old - $40.00 New - $25.00

New Fee for Citizenship Adjudication for Previously Undocumented Passport Applications Born Overseas:

Old - $0.00 New - $100.00

Report of Birth Abroad of a Citizen of the United States:

Old - $10.00 New - $40.00


Documentary Services for American Citizens


Notarial Services:

Old - $10.00 New - $55.00
