Avian Influenza Not Likely to Cause Delays in Visa Issuance Posted Mar 10, 2006 ©MurthyDotCom Avian Influenza, also known as avian flu or bird flu, is affecting many areas of Asia and Southeast Asia. The bird flu has been found in some poultry in Navapur in Maharashtra, India and is spreading into Europe, as well. At present, the Center for Disease Control (CDC) has determined that the virus is much more likely to spread from a bird to a human than from one human to another. As a result, it does not appear at this time that the U.S. Department of State (DOS) is taking any action to delay the issuance of visas to persons living in areas affected by the bird flu. ©MurthyDotCom We at the Murthy Law Firm recommend that those who intend to travel to areas affected by the bird flu, including certain regions of India and other parts of Asia, continually monitor any updates and review the DOS's fact sheet on the bird flu. At the time of this writing, there have been more than ninety (90) human deaths attributed to bird flu in Cambodia, China, Indonesia, Iraq, Thailand, Turkey, and Vietnam.
