Green Card Gets a New Face Lift!
Posted Nov 26, 2004

The United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) announced on November 15, 2004 that there has been a change made to the appearance of the plastic "green card," or I-551 card, which evidences lawful permanent resident status. The I-551 cards issued on or after November 15, 2004 feature the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) seal on the front. The back of the card includes the words "Department of Homeland Security." The card also has unspecified, enhanced security features.

Previously-issued I-551 cards will remain valid until the expiration dates indicated on them, unless they are recalled by the USCIS sometime in the future. Currently, it is not expected that the USCIS will recall these cards en masse.
