The Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) issued a November 4, 2004 press release revealing that it has arrested more than 230 foreign nationals since October 1, 2004 who were in violation of their immigration statuses. Further, more than 900 enforcement investigations were completed during the month of October 2004. ICE indicates that they are locating immigration status violators who may pose an elevated criminal or national security threat. These extra efforts are expected to continue at least through the Presidential Inauguration in January 2005.

ICE gave several examples of persons who have been detained under this ICE Threat Disruption Effort. Many were Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) violators included in a national security lookout; although one person was identified and caught through data collected through the US-VISIT entry/exit program.
