The InfoPass
appointment system is slated to expand nationwide to a total of 33 districts
by September 2004. InfoPass is an Internet-based system that allows
individuals to go online to schedule an appointment with immigration
information officers. This is obviously an enormous improvement over the
prior system of waiting in line and hoping to speak to someone. We provided
information about InfoPass to MurthyDotCom and MurthyBulletin
readers in our March 26, 2004 article,

The system started in some of the busiest USCIS district offices: Miami, Los
Angeles, Dallas, and most recently, New York City on July 23, 2004. The
USCIS has released a tentative schedule for the expansion. Three new cities,
Buffalo, Newark, and Philadelphia, are slated for the program on August 9,
2004. These are to be followed by Atlanta, Baltimore, Boston, Portland
(Maine) and New Orleans on August 16, 2004. Thereafter, Chicago and Houston
are to be added on August 18, 2004. If everything goes according to plan,
Cleveland, Detroit, San Juan, and Washington DC will be included by August
23, 2004. At the end of the expansion are Anchorage, Honolulu, Phoenix,
Portland (Oregon), San Diego, San Francisco, and Seattle on August 30, 2004.
The final set of cities is Denver, El Paso, Harlingen, Helena, Kansas City,
Omaha, San Antonio, and St. Paul on September 8, 2004.

This is a welcome improvement, for the benefit of both those seeking
information and those who have to work with the public. It should greatly
reduce the time and frustration previously expended by those seeking the
help of immigration information officers at the local District offices.
