The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) issued its first H1B Cap Report for Fiscal Year (FY) 2007, which begins October 1, 2006. The report shows that, at the end the day on April 3, 2006, the first business day that FY2007 cap-subject cases could be filed, the USCIS received 1,631 H1B filings (subject to the 65,000 quota) and 340 Masters H1Bs (subject to the 20,000 quota).

It is unlikely that the totals for that day's filings are indicative of a predictable pace. If this were to continue, the main H1B cap would be exhausted by June 2006, and the Masters limit would be reached no later than July 2006. We at the Murthy Law Firm, however, believe that this is just the flurry of cases filed on the first possible date for H1Bs under the FY2007 quota. We will continue to monitor new H1B case filings for the benefit of MurthyDotCom and MurthyBulletin readers. As always, we recommend that those who are subject to the H1B cap, and are able file their cases, do so as quickly as possible to ensure that an H1B number will be available at the time of filing under the FY2007 quota.
