No New Immigration Bill Introduced in Congress - April 2006 Update
Posted Apr 11, 2006

Although there has been much debate and publicity on the matter of a comprehensive immigration bill that had passed in the Senate Judiciary Committee a few weeks ago, nothing concrete has happened since then. The U.S. Senate was not able to reach a compromise and vote on a bill that would provide much-needed immigration relief to legal immigrants as well as undocumented migrants in the United States. The U.S. Senate will now be taking a recess for the Passover and Easter holidays. It is unclear whether they will continue to debate issues on immigration when they return from recess or, if they do, what direction it might take.

President George W. Bush has discussed the importance of immigration and requested the U.S. Congress to introduce some sort of comprehensive immigration reform at the earliest. Immigration is a hot topic with strong opinions by various groups.

We at the Murthy Law Firm take this opportunity to remind you to please request that your employers contact their elected representatives in the U.S. House of Representative and the U.S. Senate either by eMail, by telephone, or by U.S. Mail, to show their support for an increase the H1B numbers, an increase in the immigrant visa numbers for the employment- and family-based categories, and an introduction of comprehensive immigration law reform.
