The USCIS issued another update of the H1B masters' cap numbers on December 1, 2005. They have reported that, as of November 29, 2005, there are only 3,302 H1B master's cap numbers remaining. This means that 600 cap numbers were used in the 15 days since their last report on November 14, 2005. If this rate of usage for H1Bs continues for those with U.S. masters' degrees or higher levels of education, then this quota will likely be used in less than three more months. It is possible, however, that the rate of usage will increase, and the numbers could run out sooner. This is particularly likely as many students graduate in December of each year and potentially could be eligible for one of these limited H1B numbers.

At the Murthy Law Firm, we continue to encourage those who are eligible for the master's cap H1B filing to apply as soon as possible. This will help them avoid missing the cap and having to wait to file on or after April 1, 2006 with a start date of October 1, 2006. We will continue to monitor this matter closely to update MurthyDotCom and MurthyBulletin readers as information becomes available.
