Air Force Recognizes Role of Immigrants in Military
Posted Sep 26, 2003

We at The Law Office of Sheela Murthy, P.C. applaud the U.S. Air Force's recognition that not all members of the military come from "traditional" American families. On September 12, 2003, the Air Force announced that, as a part of its E Pluribus Unum (the motto of the United States, which, translated from the Latin, says "Out of Many, One") campaign, immigrant parents with children in the Air Force should now receive Air Force lapel pins and personalized thank-you notes in their respective native languages.

The letters are currently available in 100 languages, which is a testament to the diversity in the United States military. We addressed the role of immigrants in the military in our March 14, 2003 article, Immigrants Serve in U.S. Military and Receive Honors, available on MurthyDotCom. We are heartened by the government's growing recognition of the devotion and the sacrifice of immigrants in our armed forces and that of their families.
