Computer Upgrade Causes Errors
Posted Oct 17, 2003

All of the receipt notices issued by the USCIS service centers on October 6 and 7, 2003 contain errors with respect to the processing times. All applications, petitions, motions, and appeals that had receipt notices issued by the Service Centers on those two days were affected. The errors also extended to the National Customer Service Center automated system and the USCIS online status system. The errors were caused by an upgrade in the USCIS computer system.

Those who checked their statuses on October 6th or 7th may wish to do so again. Those who were issued receipt notices on their cases will receive letters informing them of the error and providing the correct information. The letter states that the cases filed that received the erroneous notices will not experience delays due to the error. Of course, it is always possible to check the most recent case processing information on MurthyDotCom, by selecting the link to the appropriate service center from our index page, also available at the end of each issue of the MurthyBulletin.
