J-1 Waiver Status Line Moved
Posted Jan 31, 2003

The U.S. Department of State (DOS) has changed the location of the online status check for pending J-1 waiver cases. The new location is <http://12.172.51.143/>. This link is only for pending requests to waive the two-year home-residency rule for those foreign nationals who have J-1s containing the home return requirement. This change has no relationship to the INS online status access.

All J-1s seeking waivers of the home-residency rule must file a request with the DOS. Those seeking the waiver based on extreme hardship to a U.S. citizen or permanent resident spouse or child must also file the request with the INS. The same is true for those seeking a waiver of the requirement due to persecution they would face in their home countries upon return. More information regarding J-1 waivers is available in our archived article,
J-1 Waivers and Issues and our April 5, 2002 article, Overview : J-1 Visas, both available on MurthyDotCom.
