Meet the Murthy Law Firm: Zachary Haugen03 Jan 2017
The dedicated team of attorneys, paralegals, and support staff at the Murthy Law Firm is integral to our success. Day after day, they help to fulfill the dreams of our clients through their integrity, diligence, and commitment to excellence. To introduce our readers to the dozens of individuals who come together to make our clients and our firm successful, we periodically present one of our exceptional team members. This entry in our continuing series, Meet the Murthy Law Firm, shines the spotlight on attorney Zachary Haugen.
Zachary earned his Bachelor of Arts degree with honors in political science from the University of Minnesota before volunteering with the Peace Corps for two years. During his service in the Kyrgyz Republic, he taught English to village children and managed the implementation of a school cafeteria and nutrition program. Zachary then went on to earn his Juris Doctor from the American University Washington College of Law, graduating summa cum laude. He quickly secured an associate position at a Washington D.C. law firm, where he conducted legal research and analysis on a wide range of issues related to the financial services sector.
After about a year, Zachary decided to switch career paths and accepted a position with the U.S. Department of State as a consular officer. In this position, Zachary was responsible for adjudicating nonimmigrant visas (NIVs) and providing routine and emergency consular services to U.S. citizens in eastern Indonesia. At the time of his departure from Indonesia, Zachary was NIV Chief for the U.S. Consulate General and managed visa operations and staff.
Last year, Zachary agreed to bring his knowledge and experience to the Murthy Law Firm. He now assists clients with complex immigration matters, including providing assistance with issues that arise at U.S. embassies and consulates. When not working as part of the Murthy Law Firm team, Zachary enjoys traveling and exploring the world’s people, history, and natural wonders. He has already visited 39 countries and hopes to make Tanzania the 40th country on his ever-growing list!
