Meet the Murthy Law Firm: Seri Smith

The dedicated team of attorneys, paralegals, and support staff at the Murthy Law Firm is integral to our success. Day after day, they help to fulfill the dreams of our clients through their integrity, diligence, and commitment to excellence. To introduce our readers to the dozens of individuals who come together to make our clients and our firm successful, we periodically present one of our exceptional team members. This entry in our continuing Meet the Murthy Law Firm series shines the spotlight on green card department senior legal assistant, Seri Smith.

Seri knows firsthand how fraught with tension the immigration process can be. Originally from Malaysia, she immigrated to the United States in 1999, having developed a strong work ethic in her home country, where she worked her way up in a hotel. She also met people from many different places.

When Seri came to the U.S., adjusting to her new life took some time. The most jarring differences were just part of day-to-day life. But, once she obtained employment authorization, Seri found work at the Murthy Law Firm (then known as the Law Office of Sheela Murthy). Seri was first hired as a legal secretary, and then became a legal assistant. She returned to that role after taking a few years off to raise her daughter. Although the firm had expanded rapidly during her absence, Seri was able to adapt quickly and she earned the position of senior legal assistant.

One of the things Seri most appreciates about working at the Murthy Law Firm is the special connection she has with her clients. “It’s kind of kept me grounded. I’m still an immigrant. I’m a naturalized citizen, but I have a sense of what they’re going through, too.”
