Murthy is Keynote Speaker at Event for 2013 Athena Awards

Sheela Murthy, founder and president of the Murthy Law Firm, delivered an inspirational keynote address at the 2013 Athena Awards breakfast, held on March 8th at the Richland Ballroom in Edgewood, Maryland. Presented by Harford County Community College, the event was attended by the leading lights of the community, representing business, academia, government, and the nonprofit sector.

There was pin-drop silence as Murthy told how she came from India with little money and big dreams, building her solo immigration practice into a law firm of international renown – one that now employs more than 80 people in Baltimore, and 20 more at its Indian affiliate. Deftly interweaving her own biography with illustrative anecdotes, Murthy shared the secrets of her success, challenging her audience to recognize their own unique talents, to find their passion, and make plans – and a personal commitment – to realize their most cherished dreams and visions.

Murthy said she came to the event to bring out the leader in each and every person there. “You, too, can reach these extraordinary heights,” she told her audience, “if you believe in yourself enough to wholeheartedly pursue your dreams.”

Murthy’s keynote address was very well received, and finished to thunderous applause. It captured the spirit of the Athena Awards, which promote women’s leadership by honoring outstanding professional and businesswomen, not just in Harford County, but at the national and international levels, as well.

We at the Murthy Law Firm extend our warm congratulations to all the Athena Award finalists for 2013, confident that their examples will inspire more women to rise to the challenge of leadership in the coming years.
