AILA Washington DC Spring Conference

I attended and spoke on Friday, April 20, 2007 at the AILA Washington DC Spring Conference on Business Immigration Law. The panel I was on was the Immigrant Visa panel which had a “star studded” set of speakers with three major government speakers from the U.S. Dept. of State Visa Office and the USCIS, among others. I spoke at length about the national interest waiver (NIW) issues, the legal evidentiary standard, what to expect, how to file a strong case and pitfalls to watch out for.

It was surprising to learn that most immigration lawyers no longer file NIWs since they are time intensive and more difficult to get approvals on compared with other “green card” filing. I shared with them that the Murthy Law Firm has successfully filed hundreds of NIWs and that they can be approved for the right candidate with the appropriate credentials and if the case is presented properly.

Overall it was a fantastic program and many people came up to congratulate our panel and that it was one of the best presentations of the entire day! It is always fun to meet and speak with AILA colleagues and get together with senior government officials who will work with us in difficult cases or where a problem arises.
