MEDOVI Project : Women’s Law Center
23 May 2007The Murthy Law Firm and the Murthy Foundation are pleased to announce that we are funding (in part), the Multi-Ethnic Domestic Violence (MEDOVI) Project offered by the Women’s Law Center of Maryland. The project offers legal services and outreach to foreign-born victims of domestic violence. This important project finds legal methods for providing individuals with protection from their abusers and legal representation (bilingual, if necessary) in their immigration matters through the collection of evidence for battered-spouse self petitions towards their independent work statuses and/or citizenship. Victims are accompanied to court proceedings and provided with advocates when speaking with law enforcement.
The project is involved in community outreach to foster relationships with service providers and community leaders, in efforts to locate the most appropriate resources and referrals for these foreign-born victims. MEDOVI is also working to educate the community on the unique problems faced by foreign-born victims of domestic violence, helping to connect them with agencies that provide support and advocacy for the rebuilding of their lives and families.
I am especially proud of our part in making this important project possible.
