MD Chamber Honors Murthy Law Firm for Corporate Philanthropy

The Maryland Chamber of Commerce and the Baltimore Business Journal recently honored the Murthy Law Firm for its commitment to corporate philanthropy, presenting a Maryland Business Philanthropy Award to our firm and two other companies, “whose philanthropic efforts have made Maryland a better place to live, work, and do business.” The Business Philanthropy Award was presented in Baltimore at the annual Philanthropy Day luncheon of the Association of Fundraising Professionals, Maryland Chapter. (See Maryland Chamber of Commerce Press Release, 18.Nov.2010.)

The Murthy Law Firm was honored in the Small Employer Category, for companies with 100 or fewer employees. According to the Maryland Chamber’s press release, the Murthy Law Firm was chosen because:

“…Murthy Law Firm has demonstrated founder Sheela Murthy’s commitment to the community by providing financial support and manpower to organizations such as House of Ruth, Our Daily Bread, American Red Cross, Girl Scouts of Central Maryland and others. The firm has contributed more than $500,000 in the past year to worthy causes. Murthy herself has been recognized and honored for her philanthropic work, including being named the 2009 Philanthropist of the Year by United Way of Central Maryland and being presented with Baltimore SmartCEO Magazine’s 2010 Circle of Excellence Award in philanthropy.”

Giving back to the community is and remains a fundamental tenet of the Murthy Law Firm’s corporate values, and we could not be more pleased with this recognition of our commitment to good corporate citizenship. We aim to set a good example and to show that success in business and leadership in philanthropy are far from being mutually exclusive – they actually go hand in hand.
