U.S. Consulate in Mumbai Resumes H and L Appointments

The U.S. Consulate in Mumbai, India, has announced the resumption of interviews for H and L visa applicants. The Consulate reopened the appointment schedule for all H and L applicants on August 26, 2011. The first appointments are being scheduled for September 6, 2011.

Background: Temporary Suspension of Visa Appointments

As MurthyDotCom and MurthyBulletin readers were advised in March 2011, the U.S. Consulate in Mumbai temporarily stopped accepting applications for either H or L visas on March 3, 2011. This change was due to the need to close several interview windows at the Consulate. The aging infrastructure of the building required the Consulate to limit the number of visa applicants who could be interviewed each day. More information is available in our NewsBrief, Limited Operations at U.S. Consulate, Mumbai: No H or L Appointments (11.Mar.11).

Appointments Resume: September 6, 2011

Visa applicants have been able to schedule appointments for H1B and L-1 interviews since August 26, 2011. The visa interviews actually begin on September 6, 2011. The physical problems with the building are being addressed on a long-term basis. The United States is in the process of having a new building constructed for the U.S. Consulate in Mumbai, which is scheduled to open later this year.

For the time being, all visa interviews are taking place at the Lincoln House Consulate building, located at 78, Bhulabhai Desai Road. Applicants should schedule their appointments online by visiting the VFS WebSite.
