Murthy Lawyers Take AILA Leadership Positions

At the 2012 conference of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA), which took place in Nashville earlier this month, several Murthy Law Firm attorneys volunteered to serve on committees of AILA’s Washington D.C. chapter for the 2012-2013 term. They will serve in a number of capacities.

Murthy Law Firm founder and president, Sheela Murthy, will again chair the committee for AILA-DC’s annual November conference and Managing Attorney and Member, Aron Finkelstein, will serve as vice chair of the Customs and Border Patrol Liaison Committee. Murthy Law Firm Member and Supervising Attorney of our Special Projects Department, Adam Rosen, will be vice chair of the Litigation Section, an educational tool for the chapter to share information on the subject of litigation for members in the DC-MD-VA area.

Jonelle Ocloo, Supervising Attorney in our Green Card Department, will continue as Chairperson of the AILA-DC Chapter’s Annual Citizenship Day event. On Citizenship Day, immigration lawyers around the country hold simultaneous pro bono legal clinics to help eligible permanent residents file for U.S. citizenship.

Supervising Attorney, Brian Green, also from our Special Projects Department, will be vice chair of the Conference Committee, which plans an annual one-day Continuing Legal Education (CLE) seminar for legal professionals in the DC-MD-VA area. As vice chair, Brian will have many responsibilities, from helping to organize topics for individual panels to applying for accreditation by several state bar associations that provide CLE credits for members who attend the conference.

Serving as co-chair of the New Member Division (NMD) and as a member of the Conference Committee will be Jessica Lee, also a Supervising Attorney of our Green Card Department. As the co-chair of the NMD, Jessica will organize a variety of professional and social opportunities for new members to AILA-DC to build their immigration practice, knowledge, and their careers. Jessica is also serving on the committee organizing the fall conference, under Sheela’s leadership.

The spirit of volunteerism shines in these attorneys who have chosen to give of their free time to advance the goals shared with AILA: to promote justice and the improvement of our immigration laws, to provide continuing legal education on immigration laws, and to build a better public understanding of how our immigration system works. We commend each of these attorneys for the leadership and commitment to service they exemplify!
