Murthy Law Firm Among Top 50 Women-Owned Businesses in Baltimore Area

Once again in 2012, the Murthy Law Firm has been named to the Baltimore Business Journal‘s annual listing of the 50 largest women-owned businesses in the Baltimore area. Just as last year, the Murthy Law Firm ranks in the top 20 of these businesses, based on our 2011 revenues and number of employees.

The rankings are part of the BBJ’s special section on 2012 Enterprising Women: Leading Change, which includes articles on women entrepreneurs and their strategies for success in a post-recession world. The Murthy Law Firm is the only law firm to make the list, which spans a wide range of industries, from architecture to marketing, consulting to software engineering, health care to petroleum sales.

Judging by the annual revenue and employment statistics, women-owned businesses are making an enormous impact on the greater Baltimore area, creating jobs and contributing to the growth of our economy. This is consistent with national statistics showing that nearly half of all privately-held U.S. businesses are owned by women, which Good Morning America‘s Claire Shipman and BBC News anchor Katty Kay pointed out in their book, Womenomics: Work Less, Achieve More, Live Better. [Harper Business, 2009.] Shipman and Kay also note that nearly half the American workforce is female, and that 46 percent of managers today are women.
