Murthy Joins Women’s Law Center 40th Anniversary Celebration

The Women’s Law Center of Maryland recently marked its 40th anniversary at a festive dinner held at the Hyatt Regency in Baltimore. As a longtime supporter of the Women’s Law Center, and an outspoken advocate for women’s rights, Sheela Murthy was delighted to celebrate this milestone, and to honor the many distinguished women who formed and built the organization. Several colleagues from the Murthy Law Firm joined Sheela at a table sponsored by the firm, a major underwriter of the event.

When the Women’s Law Center was founded in the early 1970s, gender-based discrimination was rampant and systemic. Women often were treated like second-class citizens not only in the workplace, but even within the family. Though much work remains, the Women’s Law Center has played a major role in changing things for the better, both for individual clients and the public at large, through litigation and public education, legislative advocacy, and legal assistance provided to thousands of people through the years.

At the 40th anniversary dinner, WLC President Ginger Robinson thanked Sheela for her continued support of the Women’s Law Center, and invited her to the podium to speak. Murthy praised the WLC for its commitment to protecting society’s women and children, thanked the many donors who helped WLC to reach its fundraising goals, and offered her warm congratulations and good wishes for the future.

The struggle continues, and fortunately the Women’s Law Center shows no signs of letting up in its work to secure justice and fairness for all women. Further information on this outstanding organization is available on their website.
