MLF Attorney Takes the Plunge to Support Special Olympics

Murthy Law Firm attorney Kevin Andrews was one of 13,000 or so people who braved frigid temperatures for a wintry swim in the Chesapeake Bay, at the annual Polar Bear Plunge that took place on January 26 at Sandy Point State Park in Annapolis, MD. Friends, families, and co-workers sponsored each Polar Bear “Plunger” with a financial pledge, and Kevin’s Murthy Law Firm colleagues contributed generously to his efforts. The event raised $2.1 million for Maryland’s Special Olympics, which provides year-round sports training and athletic competition to thousands of children and adults with disabilities.

It was less a swim than a dip, Kevin says, and for good reason – the air temperature was in the mid-30s, and the water wasn’t much warmer – but plunge he did, along with several friends from the Wounded Warrior Project, with whom he frequently gets together to raise money for good causes. As Kevin recounts the story:

“My friends and I stood side by side, looked at each other, then all ran in at the same time. As soon as I set foot in the water, I felt a piercing pain in my legs. You couldn’t stay in too long. It was cold, but it was awesome!”

Apparently, their enthusiasm was contagious. One couple decided to plunge with Kevin and friends, even though they’d originally planned just to watch from the shore. Kevin laughs: “Maybe it was my Spider Man suit. It’s hard to say no to someone who’s dressed like a Superhero!”

Kevin’s Polar Bear Plunge is only the latest manifestation of our core values at the Murthy Law Firm. Just as we serve our clients with dedication and professional excellence, we are committed to public service and giving back to the community – serving others with joy and enthusiasm, and working to make the world a better place.
