MLF on the Bombings in Boston

We at the Murthy Law Firm join all Americans, native-born and immigrant alike, in mourning the tragic loss of life and limb wrought by the bombings in Boston this week. Even as we mourn, we take solace in the knowledge that nothing these murderers – whether foreign or domestic – can do will shake our resolve to preserve the open society we cherish, even in the face of deadly threats from cowardly extremist elements who are bent on destroying it.

Boston has special symbolism in our country’s history, as one of a handful of colonial cities that formed the cradle of our nascent democracy. In a very real sense, an attack on Boston is an attack on the foundational values that shaped the nation we have become – a nation that, for more than two centuries, has been a beacon of freedom, opportunity, and hope for the rest of the world; a place where the rule of law secures our rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

Generations of immigrants have flocked to this country because they understood that promise. Having fled poverty, oppression, injustice, and the lack of economic opportunity in their homelands, immigrants have a special appreciation for the core values of this nation – values taken for granted all too often.

In the wake of this tragedy, let us take a moment to look at our country through fresh eyes, and see what a thing of beauty it is – and with that in mind, defend our shared values with renewed determination. Whether foreign or domestic, all terrorists have a common goal – to shake our sense of security. But they will not defeat us – and they will be brought to justice.

All of us at the Murthy Law Firm express our heartfelt condolences to the victims of this tragedy, and their families and friends. Our thoughts and prayers are with you!
