Murthy’s New Role & Maryland Chamber of Commerce Annual Meeting
13 May 2013Murthy Law Firm founder and president, Sheela Murthy, attended the Annual Meeting of the Maryland Chamber of Commerce, held May 1, 2013 at the Hilton BWI Airport. At a board meeting that afternoon, Murthy was elected to her new position as Vice Chair of the Chamber’s Board of Directors. For the past two years, she served with distinction as the Chamber’s Secretary / Treasurer.
That evening, Murthy and several attorneys from the Murthy Law Firm were on hand for a networking reception, followed by the Chamber’s Business Hall of Fame Awards Dinner, which honored several pillars of Maryland’s business community.
At the invitation of the Chamber’s new Board Chairman, Thomas Graham, Murthy gave a heartfelt invocation before dinner. New inductees to the Chamber’s Business Hall of Fame are:
- Timothy Adams, President and CEO of SA-TECH, who founded his defense contracting company almost 20 years ago, building it into a multi-million dollar concern with over 400 employees.
- Alan and Lois Elkin, Founders and Co-CEOs of Advance – The Document Specialists – who started their document management company in 1964; now the largest independent company of its kind in Maryland.
- Austin Joseph Slater, President and CEO of Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative, who has led his company to a J.D. Power and Associates Award for best customer service for five consecutive years.
It was a wonderful celebration of the human side of business – an object lesson in the value of relationships, and the success that comes when you care about your family, friends, colleagues, and the community as much as you care about the bottom line! From Sheela Murthy, and all of us here at the Murthy Law Firm, congratulations to all of the Maryland Chamber’s 2013 Business Hall of Fame honorees!
