A Global Plea for Philippine Typhoon Relief
14 Nov 2013A massive international relief effort is underway after Typhoon Haiyan laid waste to a large swath of the central Philippines last weekend, bringing 200 mile-per-hour winds and devastating storm surges. So massive was this storm, and so devastating, it is likely many of us are yet to learn of the ways it has touched the lives of people in our own communities, but we already know that members of our staff, as well as clients of our firm, have felt its effects directly.
Our hearts go out to the victims of this horrible tragedy: to the thousands who perished, to their families and friends, and to the millions of survivors who face the monumental and emotionally wrenching task of digging out, cleaning up, and rebuilding where so much was destroyed. For now, they are struggling just to find shelter, safe drinking water, and enough food to sustain them until some sense of normalcy is restored. In the meantime, the situation remains dire.
Time is of the essence, and help is urgently needed to protect survivors from further consequences of the storm: disease, starvation, and social disorder. We urge you to lend your support to the charity of your choice to help our brothers and sisters in the Philippines.
The Murthy Law Firm and MurthyNAYAK Foundation are doing our part as well, and have made a contribution to the National Alliance for Filipino Concerns (NAFCON) to provide emergency relief in the Philippines. NAFCON was selected, in part, because none of the proceeds go to administrative costs. We call upon our friends, colleagues, and business associates to do likewise. Your generosity matters, and it will make a difference!
More information on NAFCON relief efforts, and how to donate, can be found online.
