Generosity Abounds Among Murthy Law Firm Staff

Readers of the MurthyBlog, and others who follow the activities of Sheela Murthy, are aware that she is quick to make a donation to a worthy cause, or to give her time to serve on a board, or in another capacity, to lead an organization that offers relief to those in our community who are suffering. It was only natural, then, for the firm’s Philanthropy Committee to initiate a hands-on program to involve all interested employees in volunteerism.

This is the first year of the program. In February, readers learned about a day of service for which Murthy Law Firm employees could volunteer in support of the House of Ruth in Baltimore, which helps victims of domestic violence. Yesterday a contingent of staff from our firm was at the Maryland Food Bank. It is humbling to see close up where there is need and how we can help. The firm makes it convenient to get involved, and often the involvement continues beyond the half day away from the office. Additionally, the Murthy Law Firm makes donations throughout the year to worthy organizations, often suggested by employees who are involved with their efforts. Each quarter, the firm sponsors a day of service in support of a different organization in our community. Our staff are provided with one half day per year, during which they can participate in one of these events. Those who prefer not to take part in an off-site event can still get involved in any of the drives to collect items and funds for organizations that occur throughout the year. There is good-natured competition to see which area of the firm can raise the most during a particular drive. The goal is to bring everyone together, while doing good.

Every day our staff members help Murthy Law Firm clients to fulfill their dreams of living and working in the United States. They exemplify kindness and goodwill above and beyond what is expected of them. Still, they respond enthusiastically whenever there is a chance to volunteer and help neighbors in need. This is a quality they carry with them beyond the workday.
