Judge Blocks Portions of Arizona Immigration Law

The most controversial portions of Arizona’s immigration law, S.B. 1070 will not go into effect on July 29, 2010. On July 28, 2010, the U.S. District Court for Arizona ruled favorably on portions of a motion for injunction filed by the U.S. Federal Government. The injunction means that the particular provisions are placed on hold, for now. Whether or not they will ever become the law in Arizona depends upon the outcome of the U.S. Government’s lawsuit, as well as other lawsuits filed against Arizona.

The injunction extends to the provisions in the law that required police officers to inquire about immigration status during certain police interactions with individuals.
